The annual world market for the development, the design and the installation of plasma treatment devices and equipment is of 12 billion US$, off which 10 billion US$ for the microelectronic industry. In Quebec, if we exclude microelectronics, there are approximately 25 firms engaged in plasma treatment, a 55 million CAN$ market (160 million CAN$ for all of Canada). Scientifically, plasma physics has greatly contributed to the understanding of electromagnetic phenomena and collective phenomena, such as turbulence, chaos and non-linear processes. However, the nature of the research in the field of plasmas require the development of a multidisciplinary approach. The increasing interest created by the use of plasma in diverse fields is due to their remarkable characteristics. Plasma are complex environments that combine particles and radiation of diverse natures. The chemical reactivity and the physical properties of plasmas make them indispensible for the accomplishment of certain industrial processes and phenomenas. |
